A Garden Pond From Scratch

Midweek Herald editor Belinda Bennett has always longed for a garden pond. Inspired by childhood memories of a neighbour's pond in a back garden in Whitebridges, Honiton, she has since enjoyed happy times observing aquatic life in a pond of near lake proportions at the home of a friend's parents in rural Dorset. White spot strikes my goldfish

I'm devastated!
I came home from work, looked at my fish and saw white, raised spots all over them - right down to the end of their tails.
I knew it was white spot straight away.
They didn't have spots yesterday, but were rubbing themselves against each other and the pump.
I have treated the pond and will continue to do so every 48 hours for a week.
Cross everything that they make it.
The assistant at Pets At Home, in Axminster, was very helpful. I just hope I've caught it in tme.
White spot is caused by a tiny parasite and the end result could be horrific.
Please, God, don't let it come to that. I love my fish.
